"I have looked for a coach for
a long time, and working with Josh went beyond anything I had found locally.
For
a very reasonable rate, he gave me access to his ebook, "Smart Running,"
designed a program for me, first for a 10k and later for a marathon
(Boston). The best part was how accessible he was, responding quickly to my
feedback & questions. He told me what pace I should be running each workout,
helped me target the proper heartrate, and gave me specific speedwork each
week. He utilized an online website where he could create my schedule, and I
would log each run for him to see afterwards. Before a race, he gave me a
specific profile to help me reach my goal. I would absolutely recommend him,
and look forward to working with him again! Jeannie, Boston
Marathon 2007
"I agree that he
(Brandon) could
have given them (first heat) a very good run
for the gold (AAU National Championship, 800
Meters). As it was, there was a lot of
buzz after his race of how strong he
finished and looked, and how it would have
been good to see him in the fast heat. Our family wants to
thank you very much, as your input was very
valuable in Brandon's success. You can be
sure that Brandon now believes in your smart
run philosophy and I must admit he surprised
even me, he worked even in practices very
hard to do it, remembering he is still only
8."

meters race of the AAU Nationals for 8-10
year olds
"I started running seriously at the end of
2004, just after my 40th Birthday and
after a 19 year layoff! I got in touch with
Josh Scully in August 2005 and at that
time I was running about 35 miles a week
and having some success in local road races.
The training I had been doing was a
hodgepodge of stuff I had done in High
School as well as 'newer' ideas I had
read about from the Daniels Running Formula.
I
didn't feel like I was quite clicking on all
cylinders though so I asked Josh to give
me some advice for harder workouts. The
interval workouts he passed on to me that
fall were like a combination of threshold
and Vo2 max workouts -- i.e. long reps with very short breaks. I'd start slow (i.e.
15K race pace) and gradually work my way
down till I was doing the last couple at 5K
pace or slightly quicker. Doing these
workouts got me really fit and also taught
me how to race smarter. In my best 5K
last fall I ran a 17:52 going 5:54, 5:54 and
then low 5:30's! It was amazing to experience the same exhilarating feeling
of a negative split workout in a race. In April I asked Josh to start giving me
all of me workouts, which include amongst
other things, progressive long runs, the
main component of my training alongside
the intervals with short rests. In these
long runs I start slow and build in the
middle before hitting the last 2 or 3
miles hard, once again conditioning my body
for negative split races. I've lowered my
5K PR again to 17:41 -- this time with a
5:21 last mile -- in a race that I didn't
even taper for. Josh's workouts have me
feeling super fit and I'm looking forward to
a solid summer of training with more PR
races to come."

Scully helped "me reach the Promised Land
with two state championships" during high
school and helped me to really love running.

"Josh Scully's focus on key quality workouts
each week has made a big difference in my
level of Runner and racing. Before I
started working with Josh, my running was
stuck in a rut. My weekly workouts
consisted of haphazard slow distance runs
with no real goal other than hitting certain
mileage each week. Josh's focus on
quality, race-oriented training has
energized my running. His wealth of
experience is invaluable and the variety of
his workouts keeps things interesting and
fun. I highly recommend his approach
to running."

You rarely
do something in life that you are proud of, you just go from
day to day existing. You certainly don’t wake up one
morning and think “Today I might run a half marathon, just
for fun”. Well let me tell you, that is what I did with
the help of Josh. I truly believe that without Josh’s help
and motivation I would never have been able to do this. I
am not an elite athlete, nor am I even a fast runner. In
fact to do less than a 6 min km is fast for me!!!! You will
never see my name in the record books and if I died tomorrow
nobody in the running world would ask where I was. That
just makes what Josh has done for me ever more special. You
see, Josh actually cares about people and wants to help
them. He is now my inspiration and motivation to continue
with running. With Josh’s advice and support I am competing
in another half marathon in seven weeks time!!! So don’t
hesitate any longer, give Josh a go because I am glad I did.

Josh Scully is
a must for any level of runner.
If
you want to take a quantum leap in your
running, Josh is the person to help you
reach such a level. Running has a lot to
do with your individual effort but with
proper guidance, Josh will help towards your
true potential. I truly believe that so
many runners could run smarter than they
presently are and if you run smarter than
you run faster! I never would have believed
that I would be running the times I have
accomplished today. I look forward after
every run to give Josh a quick email about
how I knocked off the run and the best part,
he responds to every email I send him,
that's a lot of emails! Josh has helped me
realize my true potential as a runner and
everyone knows how running parallels life,
so really he is actually much more than a
running coach.

"I'd like to
thank you for coaching me this past spring
to a training level I had not been to in
years.
As
the big 4O approaches, I've seen a steady
decrease in my performance the last five
years. I wanted to return to the
competitive race level I once enjoyed. By
working in concert with you over these past
four months, I was able to accomplish my
goals in the 5K. But I also
found out that my performance level
increased in distances from 2 mile to 13.1
miles. I was always amazed how you were
able to nail my hard workouts down to nearly
the second for each rep. Your smart
intervals approach really makes sense, and
it works. The progression from the early,
longer smart intervals to the fast, shorter
smart intervals enabled me to become
accustomed to the intensity of the
5K race. Thanks for sharing your
insight with me. I know I have benefited
from it, and I know my Cross-Country team
will too this fall. Look for us at the State
Meet this year." Howard, Almost

I've been training with Josh since
January of this year and I have to admit I am very
impressed with the results I have been achieving
using Josh's personal training program. Josh has
modified his proposed training program based on my
input and been understanding of my personal
situation. I am currently using a 17 week program to
get me through the
Chicago Marathon and hopefully
achieve my goal of qualifying for the
Boston Marathon. This will be my 8th
marathon and so far this year I am running better
times in races than I have in 3-4 years and for a 57
year old guy that is really energizing. Josh has
really helped me understand what I should be trying
to accomplish with each training day and how to set
a strategy for race day. I'm very pleased!!!
